Our History

In the 1920s, Ralph Perkins established a business that would later evolve into Winding Creek Nursery, Inc. Starting as a truck farm on Baseline Road in Bristol, Ralph sold vegetables, flowers, and vegetable bedding plants. In March 1957, Ralph and his family relocated to Millbrook, our current location, where his sons, Bill and Fred, and his daughter, Betty, joined the growing enterprise. The family expanded their operations to include planting nursery stock in the fields, while continuing to sell vegetable and flower bedding plants.

Over the years, Winding Creek Nursery has steadily grown—not just in acreage but also in the variety of offerings. We now cultivate a diverse range of trees, shrubs, annuals, perennials, and vegetable plants on 160 acres of land. While much of our nursery stock is grown onsite, we also source specialty varieties native to Northern Illinois to meet the unique needs of our customers.
